I usually photograph family portraits and weddings, but this year I decided to try something totally different. I’ve always been interested in doing fashion/editorial photography and have tried it a couple of times before. I’ve seen America’s Next Top Model enough times to see how much hard work goes into doing fashion photography, but still I wanted to learn about it and decided to give it a shot…CHALLENGE ACCEPTED.
I was lucky enough to do a fashion shoot with fashion blogger, Jyo of Cuppajyo. She’s been doing it for about 2 years now (congrats!) and her experience and knowledge was a big help for me.
We did our shoot at the Berkeley Marina in Berkeley, CA. Traffic was not too bad (at least for me) and we were hoping for a sunny day. Instead, we got a cloudy one instead. No worries though, we kept on and got some really great shots. I love the Marina because it gives you different backdrops in one convenient location, which is perfect when you have multiple outfits to shoot. The cloudy overcast diffused the light, which helped me expose the photos correctly. I had a harder time thinking about poses for Jyo but she knew exactly what to do so it worked out perfectly. Overall, my first fashion sesh went great and I learned a lot. There is definitely a lot more to learn but I AM READY!
